“Library REAdS (Review, Evolve, Advance Services) through Instructions”

The University Libraries held its 12th Library & EMRC In-service Training last October 29, 2012 at the Seminar Hall, MSEUF Library Complex. This year, the library started to have two in-service trainings, one for each semester in order to prepare and train library & EMRC staff and the student assistants for the coming semester. It has a theme “Library REAdS (Review, Evolve, Advance Services) through Instructions”. It was a whole day seminar. The speakers were the four Junior Librarians of the University. The first speaker was Mrs. Sheryl Farquerabao, the BED Librarian, who discussed about the Review of Library Services. Followed by the Mrs. Charlyn Salcedo, CRS Librarian who explained about the Evolution of Library Services. Ms. Geraldine Mallo, the IGSRL Librarian talked about the Advance Library Services. Services through Library Instructions was discussed by the Continuing Resources and LUISS Librarian, Ms. Myrna Macapia.

“Teaching Information Literacy to School-Age Children”

The Philippine Association of School Librarians, Inc. (PASLI) conducted a half-day seminar-workshop on “Teaching Information Literacy to School-Age Children” on August 17, 2012. It is an outreach project of the association for school librarians in Quezon Province. It was held at the Library Seminar Hall of MSEUF.

Organization of Library Materials and its General Assembly

Librarians Association of Quezon Province-Lucena, Inc. (LAQueP-LInc) hold its workshop on “Organization of Library Materials and its General Assembly” last September 14, 2012 at the University Library Seminar Hall, Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City.

“Revisiting Libraries’ Collection: Challenges and Opportunities”

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council (PLAI-STRLC) hold the National Conference on August 13-15, 2012 at Tagaytay International Convention Center, Aguinaldo Highway, Tagaytay City.

The theme of the national conference is “Revisiting Libraries’ Collection: Challenges and Opportunities”. The conference aimed to provide the significance of collection management as the librarians face the new era of challenges and opportunities in librarianship. It also helped the participants in assessing and analyzing their collection in order for them to identify their libraries’ strengths and weaknesses. It also provided an avenue to impart the professional updates on current issues and concerns on the development of library collection and develop plans to address these issues.

11th In-Service-Training for Library and EMRC Student Assistants

University Libraries conducted a training at the Seminar Hall, MSEUF Library Complex last June 5, 2012 with a theme “Building Info-Skills by Design: Embedding Information Literacy in Library Services”. This is an annual activity of the library that aims to train and update student assistants and library staff on the new trends of librarianship.

Springer Southeast Asia Road Show

The Springer, one of the world’s largest international publishers of scientific, technological and medical (STM) books delivering quality content through innovative information products and services, as well as a trusted provider of local-language professional publications in Europe especially in Germany and the Netherlands conducted a Springer Southeast Asia Road Show together with iGroup (Asia Pacific) Ltd. with the theme “Changing your library for new generation users” last June 26, 2012 held at Bay Leaf Hotel, Intramuros. The Road Show aims to to update the participants with the latest development in library and publishing industries, as well as the tools that help the participants and their patrons to manage ever-changing scientific world.

Building Info-Skills by Design: Embedding Information Literacy in Library Services

The University Libraries  held its 11th Library  In-Service Training at the Seminar Hall, MSEUF Library Complex on June 5, 2012 with a theme “Building Info-Skills by Design: Embedding         Information Literacy in Library Services”. This is an annual   activity of the library that aims to train and update student assistants and library staff on the new trends of librarianship.

Preservation of Paper-Based Collection

The Society of Filipino Archivists in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts sponsored a three-day seminar workshop on Preservation of Paper-Based Collection last May 28-30, 2012 at Bulwagang Darangen, NCCA, Intramuros, Manila.

K to 12 Curriculum and the School Library

The Philippine Association of School Librarians, Inc. (PASLI) sponsored a forum on “K to 12 Curriculum and the School Library ” last May 18, 2012 at the Discussion Area of the Library Media Center of Miriam College-High School,  Quezon City. The forum aims to enable school administrators, professional school librarians and teachers working in both public and private school libraries to: a) establish direction and support for their schools’ curriculum development plan; b) discover new challenges and opportunities for the school library in the K to 12 curriculum and environment; and c) find ways to strengthen the partnership between school administration and the library in order to support the new K to 12 Curriculum.

Planning, Developing and Managing Digitization & Research Projects for Libraries and Information Centers

The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc (PAARL) held their National Summer Conference entitled Planning, Developing and Managing Digitization & Research Projects for Libraries and Information Centerslast April 18-20, 2012 at Daven’s Palace Tapyas Road, Barangay Poblacion 4, Coron Palawan.The conference was attended by Ms. Geraldine Mallo, one of the librarians at Enverga Library. The theme of the conference evolved on the following objectives: (1) to have a better understanding of the emerging trends and practices in planning and implementation of library digitization projects, (2) to be able to have good choices, and where appropriate, to initiate successful digital imaging and digitization programs at their home institutions; and (3) to be able to define and design a low cost digitization project applicable in libraries and information centers. The whole conference delivered fruitful information for the benefit of libraries and its digitization project.

ALAM 2012 (Advancements in Libraries, Archives, and Museums)

The University of the Philippines Library Science Alumni Association (UPLSAA) and the UP School of Library and Information Studies sponsored a seminar –workshop on “ALAM 2012 (Advancements in Libraries, Archives, and Museums): Organization of Information Resources and Converging Practices” last March 7-9, 2012 at Pearlmont Inn, Limketkai Drive, Cagayan De Oro City. The seminar’s main objective is to strengthen the participants’ knowledge and be acquainted with the new trends and related issues on the organization of information in Libraries, Archives and Museums.

Developing and Teaching Information Literacy in School Library Media Centers

The Philippine Association of School Librarians, Inc. (PASLI) with C & E Publishing, Inc. sponsored a seminar –workshop on “Developing and Teaching Information Literacy in School Library Media Centers” last January 27, 2012 at Information Resource Center (IRC) of the C& E Bookstore, Quezon Ave., Quezon City. The seminar-workshop aims to help professional librarians, media specialists and non-professionals working in both public and private school libraries to: a) upgrade the information skills of school librarians and media specialists; b) gain more strategies in teaching information literacy to school-age children; and c) promote the development of information literacy among their library patrons.

 PAARL, known as Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians, Inc., conducted a modular training program on “Bibliotherapy Services through Book Prescription Shops in Libraries & Information Centers” last May 19-20, 2011, at National Bookstore Superbranch Cubao Quezon City. It was participated by librarians from different institutions around the Philippines.  The Philippine Association of School Librarians, Inc. (PASLI) held a three-day national seminar-workshop on “Empowering the School Administrators and School Librarians in Rendering Library Services” at Quirino Hall, Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City last May 10-12, 2011.
